Avocado Season in Panama

One day, our little eco resort will also be referred to as that place with all the avocado trees! Fortunately for all of us including the animals of the jungle, avocado trees grow in abundance in our area and are now in peak fruiting season. Technically classified as a berry, this fruit, also called an alligator pear (good one to know for trivia night), is an important part of all our diets and are prolific this time of year. Since moving here in 2015, we have been planting all our avocado seeds and now have a lot of fruiting trees on our property with a bright future ahead because we really never stop planting those seeds.
As part of our reforestation program and because it's so easy to plant them - you simply drop the seed in the garden and within a week it's starts sprouting (my kind of gardening), we have planted over a hundred trees with no plans to stop. Persea americana originated from central Mexico around 9,000 years ago finding their sweet spot in tropical and Mediterranean climates. The trees take about 7 years to fruit here when grown organically like ours, can live hundreds of years, and have a soft, brittle wood. We learned early on this is not a tree you can climb to harvest the fruit.
Considered a superfood because of their high nutritional and medicinal value, you can imagine they find themselves into our daily dishes for our guests in many delicious ways including fresh on our tacos, guacamole with our nachos, in our soups, on our salads, served to our monkeys in rehab whole, and probably the most unique - as ice cream! It creates not only a beautiful color but a creamy texture too.
Now that we're talking food, think about what your plans are over the holidays and join us for some amazing meals together. Did you know our restaurant has won the Travelers Choice Award for over 7 years in a row? And...drum roll please because this is a really big one: our resort has won Best of the Best for 7 years running! So, the avocados aren't the only thing amazing about this magical place. Get your family together in Panama and take over our whole hotel to celebrate. With only 6 rooms, it's easy to do where we are excited to serve you.
With love from Panama,
