Surfers are like mushroom hunters in Colorado; their favorite places are their best kept secrets.
The secret is out. Morrillo is known as the most consistent area for surf in Panama. If you've got the skills and the energy, you can surf here just about every day and the water is always warm.
When we were in search of the place to build our little Eco Resort, we continuously found the waves to be really big, and beaches with powerful currents - hard places to learn. Needless to say, being from Colorado our ocean surfing skills were non-existent. When we found this spot, we knew it was perfect; sandy bottom, protected by an outer reef and an island, we fired right in and eventually we learned to surf. After a few years of practice (it's a tough sport to learn), we were able to walk further down the beach to try our luck in the bigger waves. The secret may be out, but there's plenty of room and the line-up is never crowded.
