Weddings are not common in Panama but partnerships are.

Being from the USA, weddings are the biggest celebration of our lives and I don't know about you but I dreamt about what my wedding would be like since childhood. Or okay, really just the the ring, the dress I would wear and of course the beautiful cake.

I just came from an amazing wedding celebration of my cousin in Arizona. In our culture it is so important that we travel far and wide to support our loved ones celebrate their commitment. Fun events with family, being a part of the preparations, and the best part - witnessing the two pledge their love and devotion to each other in front of the most important people in their lives. In the USA we have a lot of traditions but it's always fun to see how unique each wedding can be.

Here in Panama it is quite different...

Oh how I love wedding cakes!

In Panama, they have partnerships, live together and have children, but it's not expected to be a lifetime commitment.

For me, this has been one of the more interesting cultural differences to witness and at times it can get pretty scandalous too! It is common for women to have several children, each with a different partner and while it is the normal way of life here, you can imagine that at times this makes for some pretty spicy dynamics in the small towns of Panama.

Speaking of polygamous, it appears that Soldier has a girlfriend! We witnessed him mating today so hopefully he will have a baby soon if he hasn't already.

Howler monkeys live in troops of up to 20 at a time, mostly females. So even though the males will have several partners, they share the responsibility of caring for the infants.
